I just read John Green’s blog on tumblr and I am amazed by his post about why the corporate patronage model for funding online video (and other media) is screwed up.
Well that’s true I guess… because I think television is screwed up too you know. For instance like MTV Asia or Channel V. They will air stuff that will appeal to the broadest possible audience, not stuff that will mean something to a smaller audience.
It seems like they can’t distinguish between stuff we watch and listen and stuff we love. They don’t or maybe they CANNOT understand that while lots of people watch and listen to K-Pop, more people love J-pop and J-rock.
I’ve wrote about J/K Hits before. I was so mad at MTV Asia because they didn’t air J-Pop at all even though it was supposed to be Japan/Korean Hits. For god’s sake, are they freaking insane???
and I wrote that they should change the name of the show if they won’t play Jpop/Jrock anymore.
Well… They changed the name of the show. It’s K-wave now, right?
They only think. “oh, Kpop is trending now so why don’t we make shows about Kpop. This will make our rating higher”.
Just like John Green wrote, They don’t get the idea that even though they get fewer viewers, they get BETTER VIEWERS.
THE THINGS THAT MATTER TO THEM ARE ONLY RATINGS AND PROFIT I GUESS… maybe they think that’s how it works.
I wonder if there will be any J-Pop/J-rock again on MTV Asia…But I guess there won’t be any…
Maybe my post here doesn’t matter to them, but it matters for those who care about it.
IN INDONESIA, THOSE CONCERT PROMOTING COMPANIES ARE SCREWED UP TOO
K-Pop is just trending for less than 1 year, but can you believe how many boybands have come to Indonesia? We begged them to bring Japanese bands to Indonesia but they never listen.
We begged for like 7 years but there’s no response. We did everything we could.
We signed petition to bring X-Japan, Alice Nine, Gazette, L’Arc~en~ciel, Ayumi Hamasaki to Indonesia but they don’t care. They think no one would want to watch such things. But they were wrong. Oh no… they were wrong… I think they’re stupid for thinking like that
Finally after waiting for like 8 years, one concert promoting company, Marygops took the chance and they brought L’arc~en~Ciel to Indonesia.
Marygops made our dreams come true.
Ps. I am grateful that there’s still people like John Green and Hank Green
